Hey folks, a quick update whilst I'm waiting for the spray to dry on the "shoulder blades" and the weapon arms...
I can not stress enough how important it is to dry fit first when dealing with resin kits. Check, check again, cut, check again, cut/file if needed etc, etc. Superglue is very unforgiving on resin, and sets very quickly and is very tough and with something like 86 parts for the bottom half of the kit, you will be kept occupied for some time! Although Forge World's instrcutions are not the best, if possible have a count up and lay out all the bits required for each section, I was missing 3 ankle pistons, a quick phone call and they're en route but a pain all the same.
Pictured is the parts required for each foot, 5 pistons are are added to this to attach to the main leg assembly. The pistons are plenty long enough so no matter how you assemble the "toes" the pistons will reach, just give them a quick snip.
I started from the middle of the foot (2) glueing part (3) in whilst holding the main part of the toe (5) in postition so that the first block maintains the right angle. I used the same technique for the tip of the toe [(7) be careful here, the middle toe is bigger than the rest and (1) has rollers on the bottom indicating it is the rear toe]. I then went back and added in the pistons (4 & 6). Pistons (4) just need to be trimmed whilst the other (6) is a two-parter, so will need trimming and inserting - just remember to leave enough for some of the pole to fit into the receiver for a real flush finish.
I assembled the right side first from foot to hip, attached the body then built the left from hip to toe (dry fitting a million times!) to ensure it sat square and would not wobble. The weapons arms are heavy so I wanted a very solid foundation for which the torso to sit.
The legs are much simpler to make, with a deal of flexability in how it's posed, I would however recommend both pistons on the leg itself to be dryfitted if possible once you've determined the final leg position as the angle can be quite tight to get the Pistons in a good position.
The shin plate is yet to be added here, as I will be painting the leg and shin plate seperatly so I can get to all the awkward areas. You can see one of the additional pistons added here, and also the "thigh" armour which is a seperate piece. There was very litte warping in the kit which is nice considering some of GW's tanks (Land Raiders in particular it seems) are warped horribly so doors do not always fit flush. As I'm still waiting on the ankle pistons (only been 4 days so far - one of which was a Bank Holiday) the legs have not yet been primed for painting, I have however started on the torso and pictures of that will no doubt follow.
Here is the leg assembly so far, you can see some of the pistons missing on the right side of the pic, and there is also a central armour plate to be added and yet more pistons which will attach the hips to the legs (that's what the little balls are for)
